Stratosphera playlist #5: Random Flow

So let me comment this:

Random Flow may be one of those Netlabels kinda unknown for the 'masses'. But - and that's a big but - it's sounds are kinda groovy and without a real website it's quite hard to spread the music.
So let me say something about this Netlabel: Mostly publishing Hip-Hop it wasn't on my radar. That stopped when Ben Banyard contacted me - I refused a fue times but after downloading the whole Random Flow things I was kinda excited. Well so I thought what I could do and I decided that it was time for another Playlist, it's the 5th.
At last after the music follows I wanna say something to ALL of there artists: GO ON LIKE THIS!

Test Tube #125: uncle bart comes to have breakfast - some paradoxes about the human existence and its arquetips

Comment from Test Tube-Site:

«From fragments of some (other) space free jazz in ‘Interlude…’ to the perversion of a spoken word in ‘Metamorphosis…’, going through the post-minimalism of ‘Cyber Chaotic Zen Paradox’, it’s a whole universe almost cinematographic – which goes beyond transcending labels and classifications – the one that we are given to discover in this excellent work from ‘Uncle Bart comes to have breakfast’.
Deep spaces of deceiving sound weirdness, where the ripping of pseudo-narrative perspectives intertwines with timbric instrumental explorations, in the quest for a new and rigorous sound.
Music in which distant and disperse ‘ethnics’, permeate a never-ending journey of disturbing beauty, in an apparent noise amalgam.» - Carlos Zíngaro

Comment from Stratosphera:
This album is not as much music at it is art. The story you will here has been written about 80 years ago; it's "Die Verwandlung" (Metamorphosis) by Franz Kafka. Kafka was one of these author that couldn't really earn money with the writting - but what those people write changes the ways of thinking and the history of liturature. His stories and novels have often been discussed. Now "uncle bart comes to have breakfast" mixes up the text with sometimes strange audial settings. He cuts, breaks, returns back again, flips the story around - get's it all dynamic and slow if the text conducts it. And so I can't do anything else than announce the most aesthetic audial work this year so far.

Archaic Horizons and Techno from Russia

Archaic Horizon #22: Electricwest - Divine de Vice

Comment from Archaic Horizon:

Manifesting an angelic sound through adverse emotions creates a dynamic structure to Divine de Vice. On the surface lie alluring tangible synths that glaze arduous and mysterious memories. Softly broken beats fringed at the edges skim across this ever fading finish, condensing the foggy barrier between a burdened past.
Beginning with a tranquil hum, "Before You Know I'm Gone" progresses from its quiet origin with distinctive glitching percussion, soft and effervescent. The unfamiliar melodies of "Hello Stranger" foreshadow the uncertain intentions of our own most powerful vice. "The Crawls" descends deep below a divine surface exposing the ominous workings of the often unseen.
The album is then completely reinterpreted through six various artists as well as a remix by Electricwest. As always, enjoy, and welcome to the new year.

Comment from Stratosphera:
This EP is the bridge between funkie-groovy laid-back-music and philosophic ambient. Just beautyfull to listen to.

Archaic Horizons #23: Heroines of the U.S.S.R - Spring Snow

Comment from Archaic Horizon:
Heroines of the U.S.S.R constructed 'Spring Snow' with manipulated field recordings layered upon various instruments including the glockenspiel, guitar, and trumpet, as well as other homemade instruments. The sound of which is then deconstructed into an aged and grainy fury of soft kinetic tones, which wander about the periphery of the stereo field.
Each track posses a living force that is elemental to the operation of its change. This distinct underlying force that drives ‘Spring Snow’ through its slow and steady transitions is manifested through the degradation of prolonged tones. The weathered sonics thaw in the layers of thermal distortion and freeze into an icy frost after being sheltered from the sun. Cycling through these processes creates a sound enlivened with a chilling mobility that activates the listener’s space.
Matt Spokes has distilled the essence of his instruments into drones saturated with distortion and synthetic effects, effectively rendering a phenomenon nature. These pure sounds construct an environment that excludes all excess while still obtaining a well-bodied and rich sound.

Comment from Stratphera:
This EP screamed at me. It screamed and whistled at the same time: 'Think of the Sovjet Union; Stalin Era. You're travelling bye train through the country. You look into the sad and silent Faces of the Poeple. A dark feeling grows in you, the feeling that something bad is going to happen." And this feeling is translated into the music - so listen to it you could loose your place and be there.

Moment Sound #2: Lokua - Trails

Comment from Moment Sound-Site:

Lokua (Joshua Keckner) is a master of melody, texture and mood. Many are yet to experience this musician’s full scope of ability. Lokua’s earlier works consist largely of down-tempo instrumental hip-hop. Recent works branch out to include a large scope of electronic genres with a significant amount of dance material. Lokua’s sound is characterized by the richness and sincerity of its emotional content with even the danciest of tracks retaining a deep, cerebral sophistication.
A Chicago native, Lokua has fully embraced and embodied his environment. His sound is deeply rooted in the city’s music and social history and his countless live performances are imbued with contemporary yet authentic and raw Chicago culture. With a back catalog of tracks hovering in the thousands (including a number of conceptually-complete albums) and new ones being produced daily, we can look forward to a great variety of music releases in the near (as well as distant) future.

Comment from Stratosphera:
This release's style is a lovely mix of hip-hop elements and downtempo. Just something to sit in the subway and nod your head.

Mixotic #123: Jemset - Antiritmo Label Mix

Comment from Mixotic-Site:

The Antiritmo netlabel is rendering homage to the pure techno sound with distinctive Detroit references. Jemset created a label mix of his favourite Antiritmo tracks. The set kicks ass and smells like holy party sweat in a deep, dark steel basement.

Comment from Stratosphera:
Antiritmo is one of the best known Netlabels on the web - this may be rootable in the sound that is very special and you won't find anywere else. Jemset made a great mix that portraits the antiritmo style really lovely.

The second album and first LP of Planete Sauvage presents seven pieces of a quite melancholic caracter. Most of them are given as a tribute to their creators different passions, first of all cinema, but also litterature and philosophy.

Comment from Stratosphera on both Releases:

What we have here are 11 soundpheres, which act dynamic. They feel tight but at the same time like wide open landscapes - this "mix", as a paradox one, shows how complex music can be and builds a bridge to philosophy.

23 Seconds #2: VA - Strange Days Have Found Us

Comment from 23Seconds-Site:

An electronic pop compilation by thirteen different composer from Sweden, Norway, Holland and France.

Comment from Stratosphera:
Ok guys (and girls), did you take your pills? I think those people didn't. "Strange Days Have Found Us" is a travel through the hole set of styles that have appeared on the netlabel scene. Not only that every track seems to be crazy, Ixtlan feeds in with something sounding like Ambient but not really being Ambient, what's coming next is totally mix-up of styles, from trancy bleep to bass-booming somethings this compilation got it.

Part 1: 1. Ixtlan - Connected to Universe / 2. Compute - Brand new start (Peter Hageus remix) / 3. Katharine & Tess - Currency of the world / 4. Electrolurk - My voice broke down the drummachine / 5. Midget Fantasy - The Warzone (Agitator mix) / 6. 0 Musicians - Feather Trance / 7. James Ausfahrt - Emelie pt. deaux

Test Tube #110: Shelter - Sleepyhead falls off the edge of the world

Comment from Test Tube-Site:

«'Sleepyhead falls off the edge of the world' is a hip-hop mini-epic for all the broken hearts out there. Love stories gone wrong... not you're typical theme for an hip-hop release, I guess... but Shelter makes it work really really well. 'Sleepyhead...' is a small gem of an EP, in fact, it's a reissue of the original which came out on Shelter's old weblog more or less an year ago. I kind of bumped into it by accident and almost immediately 'Sleepyhead...' became a regular on my winamp playlist since then. Musically, think of BoC-style nostalgia keyboards and electronics and Marshall Mather's style vocals and flow, but Swedish pop way - Shelter is from Sweden, and you're there. Excellent production, very good lyrics and an awesome sense of narrative throughout. This is the most perfect 20 minutes of hip-hop I've listened in a long time.
This release is also a good excuse to show off our new standard design for the cover artwork. Hope you dig it! Furthermore, keep your eyes peeled for a new EP to be released very soon on Shelter's own website.» - Pedro Leitão

Comment from Stratosphera:
Ok, this is special for Stratosphera. Hip-Hop isn't usual for this blog, as all you watchers know. But what made Stratosphera review this album is it's poetic side, as Pedro wrote before, this is a album about love an d getting emotionally hurted by people. It's just beautiful so sit back, relax and open your mind.

Kikapu #108: William Fields - The Ruby-leif

Comment from Kikapu (Archive.org):
We have here an amazing new mp3 release from William Fields, titled 'The Ruby-Leif.' It's a 5-track EP of incredibly melodic, beautiful electronics. It harkens back to many of our older releases from past years, and is a welcome addition to our catalogue.

Comment from Stratosphera:
First listening to this album I was quite astound. Clearly melodic, clearly experimentel, clearly veautiful but also abstract - I never thought a mix-up like this would work, but William made it work. A first-class audio experience!

Mixotic #120: Frosty - Netlabel Mixtape Vol.4

Comment from Mixotic-Site:
Frosty adds another sequel to his popular "Netlabel Mixtape" series. His journey leads him from well known net-places to hidden, secret caves. Mysterious channels are interrupted by bright light spots, they are going up and then deep down again. What's down there? A shining gold mine or just a cold, deep sheer?

Frosty
Frosty was was born in 1978 and grew up in a town called Siegen. At the age of 13 he discovered the radio show "RPR-Maximal" and he was fascinated by that electronic sound. One year later he began DJing at private parties an made his own tapes. But with the beginning of his job education in 1994 Frosty lost many of his old contacts and got new influences. Electronic music became secondary.
In 2006 while he was surfing the internet and found a netlabel by chance. Wondering how it could be to get legal mp3 tracks for free he downloaded his first electronic music after years. One year and many gigabytes later Frosty started mixing his own tapes again.

Pentagonik #19: LE Cantin - You're just a fake

Comment from Pentagonik-Site:
A member of the archipel netlabel, the Montreal based artist LE Cantin has come out with his newest EP "You're just a fake" on pentagonik. The album boasts four minimalist, heavy-pumping tracks. Thick snares, old school vocals and basslines reduced to the max make up the core of his tracks. The future seems to be talking backwards faster and faster.
